This Week In St. Louis: May 13 - 19, 2019

@ Foam | 9:30pm | $12/$15 | all ages
-Old Time Relijun (WA)
-Plant Mom

You might know Arrington de Dionyso as the artist targeted by the Pizzagate Conspiracy or even his own work as a solo saxophonist, but he's led prolific bands dating back to the '90s. Old Time Relijun is maybe his most renowned, marrying post-punk, no wave and experimental rock for a lush yet loose set that constantly peaks. Hushgush plays one of its last shows before two of its members relocate to Chicago, and Plant Mom performs for the first (and final) time, featuring members of Shady Bug, Yuppy and more.

Sun. May 19 @ CBGB
8pm | $5-$7
-Fried Egg (VA)
A solid three-band show at CBGB is hard to beat, even on this strangely busy Sunday. Fried Egg hits especially hard with its deranged brand of frantic punk, leaving little to the imagination. Prism #1 is an equally blunt band with a more frenetic vibe while Nibiru brings a pop approach that feels both rigid and loose.

@ The Nest | 8pm | $5
-Wild Firth (MN)
-Star Belly
-Soft Sweat

Wild Firth's repetitive rock and roll phrases open into these wide expanses where riffs have room to loop and move around. It all makes for a dramatic progression that's delivered in a laid back but not lazy way. While the Minneapolis-natives sort of teeter on pop, they have much more in common with a kraut-rock band.

These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!
