Tunic's riff-driven noise rock has a backbone of muscular bass and razor-sharp drumming. The power trio from Winnipeg invokes Drive Like Jehu and early Don Cab with the brevity and pace of a hardcore band. A diverse mix of post-hardcore and experimental electronic music is represented with a pair of outstanding locals.

New Music Circle presents:
-Lonnie Holley

A world-renowned sculptor whose works have been showcased at the White House Rose Garden, the United Nations and art museums all over the United States, Lonnie Holley builds experiential sets with keyboard, singing and spoken word. It's a weathered sound shaped through decades of thoughtful art and personal challenges.

FRI. NOV. 16

@ Foam | 10pm
-B|_ank (Nashville, TN)
-Syna So Pro
-Body Leash

Between moonlighting as R. Stevie Moore's drummer, collaborating with members of Deerhoof and booking shows throughout the Nashville area, William Hicks sharpens his solo endeavors under the name "B|_ank." His merging of percussion, noise and psychedelia results in a buoyant mix that can be as danceable as it is harsh. This is his first solo tour after supporting the Flaming Lips on a long string of shows earlier this year.

-Laser Background (Philadephia, PA)
-Shady Bug
-The Tube Socks

The Tube Socks return for a rare performance in support of Laser Background, an exploration of dream pop by Philadelphia-based artist Andy Molholt (also of Speedy Ortiz). His latest EP People Person was just released on November 2nd, and is packed with a polyrhythmic and hook-heavy set of songs.

SAT. NOV. 17

@ Flood Plain | 9:30pm
Rose Raft's Artist-In-Residence Exhibition:
-Waveless

Covers of Smashing Pumpkins songs aside, this is a dark punk band in a love affair with shoegaze. It's no wonder then that Rose Raft, an entity run by the duo known to most as the Funs, picked Waveless to provide a soundtrack for its latest Artist-In-Residence exhibition. Flood Plain is an intimate space to catch the Minneapolis outfit's space-faring sound alongside the stellar works of two photographers and two sculptors.

These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!

WED. NOV. 7

@ Bolozone | 8pm
-C.H.E.W. (Chicago, IL)
-Kiki
-Newt Patrol
-Body Leash

Both frantic and frenetic, Chicago's C.H.E.W. makes a wiry kind of hardcore that's rife with sharp starts and stops and wild left-turns. As if you needed any more reason to go, the local lineup is crazy diverse between Kiki's spacey punk and the solo noise-rock stylings of Body Leash.

FRI. NOV. 9

@ 560 Music Center | 8pm | $10-$20
New Music Circle presents:
-Ellen Fullman

What's so remarkable about Ellen Fullman's Long String Instrument -- other than the fact that she's been performing with it for more than 30 years -- is that she invented both the device and a method of playing it. Her shows are not only a rarity, but they're experiential in nature and a spectacle at that. Arriving on time is recommended if you want to have a close look, but there really won't be a bad seat in the house at the 560.

@ The Nest | 8:40pm
-Reighnbeau (CO)
-18andCounting
-Golden Curls

If you're trying to find this event on Facebook, it's billed as the "PARTY OF THE YEAR LIVE MUSIC SHOW YEAHH." Note the two Hs. Even without the party vibe, this is more than worth your eyes and ears with Reighnbeau leading a solid trio of performances. The Colorado-based artist builds careful but kinetic songs that explore a wide range of electronic subgenres.

SAT. NOV. 10

@ Schlafly Tap Room| 9pm | free | all ages
-Buildings (Minneapolis, MN)
-The Conformists
-Maximum Effort

Buildings' metallic rock weighs a ton. The Minneapolis outfit moves along at a heavy, lumbering pace, sneaking in odd time signatures in subtle ways. The Conformists are St. Louis' longest running avant-rock band, drawing on influence from '90s noise rock while sculpting a sound that's wholly their own.

These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!
