TUE. OCT. 16
@ The Nest | 8pm | $5
-Tamagotchi Teenage Dirtbag (Oklahoma City, OK)
-Canned Laughter (Oklahoma City, OK)
Both Tamagotchi Teenage Dirtbag and Canned Laughter are exports of the OKC-based O.D.D. TAPE label. Both bands are so close-knit that each's latest release is a split between the two, so expect a vibe that brings two sides of the same coin. Even without this punk one-two punch, Permission coming all the way from London is alone worth coming out for.
WED. OCT. 17
@ CBGB | 9pm | $5-$7
-Forget The Times (MI)
Math rock has been out of style long enough to be back in again, if Tundrastomper's chopped and screwed prog is any indicator. All four acts on the show bring a distinctly different vibe, making for a diverse night that ranges from raw pop to instrumental synth music to swerving free-jazz. Bring a couple extra dollars for two touring acts that are not on tour together.
FRI. OCT. 19
@ El Lenador | 9pm
-The Callous Daoboys (GA)
-The Threats (GA/CO)
-Snakehound (Kansas City, MO)
-Ronnie Rogers & The Sunshine Buddies
-Man the Manipulator
The Callous Daoboys make razor-sharp metal that's warped with the shriek of strings from a violin. Every song here feels maniacal and rhythmically frantic, ending before your brain has time to catch up with the constantly changing tempo and timing. The inclusion of Ronnie Rogers lends a little levity to what would otherwise be a dark, heady night of heavy bands.
SAT. OCT. 20
@ Heavy Anchor | 7pm | $12 | 21+
-Kudzu (Springfield, MO)
-Hands and Feet
The brains behind Wax Fruit bring the third iteration of SynthfeStl, a night of cybernetic acts led by synthesizer and/or drum machine, all to benefit the Arch City Defenders. The lineup offers Springfield's shoegazing Kudzu and the buoyant and noisy Sea Priestess among a long list of other acts that will cram keys, warbling bass and synthetic noise inside a five-hour marathon.
These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!
