This Week In St. Louis: Sep. 17 - 23, 2018

TUE. SEP. 18

@ Bolozone | 9pm | $5
-W00dy (Philadelphia, PA)
-Blank Thomas
-DJ Crim Dolla Cray
-DJ Swan
-DJ nebulosa

W00dy makes polyrhythmic dance songs that live in the sewer tunnels between digital hardcore and straight-up drum and bass. Expect two long sets by her and Blank Thomas, who continues to be one of St. Louis' more prolific electronic artists. Three DJs bridge the gap between the two, all while bathed in the technicolor static of Chizmo.TV and Kevin Harris.

@ The Sinkhole | 9pm | $5-$7
-Pious Faults (Brisbane, Australia)
-Control Test (WA)
-Mala Leche

Pious Faults wades in a sea of feedback with solid punk beats keeping the sound afloat. This Australian crew revels in noise while controlling its chaos just long enough to form solid songs. Seattle's Control Test returns to St. Louis after a tour with Mala Leche for one last blowout before flying back home.

FRI. SEP. 21

@ Joe's Cafe & Gallery | 8pm | $10-$20
New Music Circle presents:
-Joe McPhee/Chris Corsano duo
-Okkyung Lee/Bill Orcutt duo

Between this and Saturday night, where Joe McPhee and Bill Orcutt will trade places for two alternate duos with respective partners Okkyung Lee and Chris Corsano, this  will be a memorable weekend of innovative free-improvisation starring four contemporary masters of extended technique. That's not even taking into account the matinee on Saturday with Joe McPhee performing for free at the Contemporary Art Museum.

These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!
