This Week In St. Louis: Jun. 25 - Jul. 1, 2018

THU. JUN. 28

@ Kismet | 8pm | $5
-Exeunt (Chicago, IL)
-Pet Peeves (Chicago, IL)
-Janet
-Body Leash

Exeunt's darkened metal is slathered with a lacquer of oppressive noise. The songs here are giants, just stomping and stumbling with little care for whatever's underfoot. Tourmates Pet Peeves bring a more nihilistic approach, with a bandcamp rife with self deprecating song names and even an album title that straight up stabs at long-winded post-rock.

@ RKDE | 9pm | $7
-Mock Identity (DC)
-Ex Salis
-Skin Tags
-Moonrace

Mock Identity stacks soulful, conscious vocal work atop a post-punk bedrock. The elements build to a fresh set of songs that keep a bright vibe throughout, despite a tense and dynamic delivery. Few bands sound anything close to this DC outfit, and the recently released record Paradise is a powerful and effective outlier of weird punk.

SUN. JUL. 1

@ The Sinkhole | 9pm | $7
-Soakie (Melbourne, Australia)
-C.H.E.W. (Chicago, IL)
-GNAT
-Body Leash

True to its name, Soakie is drenched in gnarly guitar grime. Riffs peak through a curtain of swampy sound, offering a road map through a winding brand of heavy hardcore. A local favorite, Chicago's C.H.E.W. returns to help sweeten the deal with its cop-hating d-beat punk.

These are just some highlights. See the side bar for more!
