This Week In St. Louis: Jun. 18 - 24, 2018

FRI. JUN. 22

@ Foam | 8pm | $5
-EW (FL)
-Rainé Rainé (GA)
-Ra Child
-Aiko Tsuchida
-Liberty van Zandt
-Beauty Pageant

EW's outsider rock feels simple because these riffs are solid and effective on their own. The overall vibe here is fairly straightforward, but there's an odd underbelly that keeps the sound moving just left of center. The locals on hand range from hip-hop to harsh noise, ultimately serving a hugely diverse show.

SAT. JUN. 23

@ El Lenador | 9pm | free
-John Wiese
-Joseph Hammer & Joe Potts

If you're not hip to contemporary composer John Wiese and his enormous body of work, you might recognize his name from a show last fall where he amassed many of St. Louis' most unique and intriguing performers for an unforgettable night of experimental music. This time, the sound artist offers an intimate solo set that is completely free of charge.

SUN. JUN. 24

@ Foam | 8pm | $7 | all ages
-Lithics (OR)
-Natural Man (Kansas City, MO)
-Complainer
-DJ Hanime

From a new record on Kill Rock Stars to its recent tour with Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Lithics is on the cusp of making post-punk a more mainstream proposition. This Portland crew has made two of the most dynamic and innovative albums under the punk umbrella in the last three years -- and seeing the band in a venue the size of Foam is a rare experience even now, when the band is already playing larger spots throughout the country. DJ Hanime kicks off the show at 8 PM sharp.

These are just some highlights. See the sidebar for more!
