WED. APR. 11
@ The Nest | 9pm | $5-$7
Flasher's shoegazing songs are cold to the touch, decorated with laid back vocal harmonies that mix into a smooth, milky texture. The overall vibe here is straightforward but never narrow-minded thanks to the subtle weaving of exploratory tones. Waterproof is south city's latest post-punk export while Shady Bug returns to form with its first local show in some time.
FRI. APR. 13
@ CBGB | 9pm | $7
-Trampoline Team (New Orleans, LA)
-Enoch Ramone (Atlanta, GA)
NOLA's Trampoline Team brings a frantic scraping of strings against a forceful backbeat. This is hardcore that stays true to form while side-stepping the potholes of genre norms. Between Mom and Xenon, St. Louis mirrors the touring acts with an unending supply of snarling punk.
@ El Lenador | 9pm | $5 | all ages
-Dave Stone Ensemble
No lineup screams classic St. Louis noise like one with Beauty Pageant at the fore. Close/Far Recordings and Bruxism guru Nathan Cook lends a solo set to a strange night of experimental music that ranges from robotic synth songs to otherworldly free jazz. A variety show for deep space aliens and deep sea creatures.
SUN. APR. 15
@ The Nest | 8pm
-Not For You (Chicago, IL)
By blending buoyant indie rock with no-wave squalor, Chicago's Not For You travels into dark, even gothic territory. There's a clandestine vibe here, comparable to other Chicago contemporaries such as Toupee or Drool. Riffs here are unapologetically drenched in reverb, but they work due to solid bass work that keeps a melodic stranglehold on the sound.
