It's the end of an era? Or the end of an error? Either way, Yowie will be shedding 2/3 of its members after this night, never to be the same band again. While the drummer does have plans to continue the band in some shape or form, this show will be your last chance to see groundbreaking power trio in its most effective lineup to date.

TUE. DEC. 19

@ 2720 Basement | 9pm | $7
-Damak (Austin, TX)
-Mom
-Dentist
-Spirits

Damak plays boiling riffs stretched thin over junky drums. The whole thing feels thick and full of static, counting on a guttural rush of energy to relate the songs within. Spirits is the latest export of Luc Michalski, known for his work in Black Panties, Violations and a long list of other vital St. Louis bands.

Pre-game the holiday weekend with a power run of local songwriters in an intimate setting. Few shows give this kind of primer on songcraft, and this night offers both strong and subtle guitar work that ranges from straight-ahead to strange and inventive.

-Tim Pilcher & Monica Lord (Columbia, MO)
-Oxherding
-Solid Waste

Fitz Hartwig's Oxherding offers a nameless narrative through sound, moving the audience along an arc that feels well-traveled with all the peaks and valleys expected from such a journey. FRI. DEC. 15

@ Kerr Foundation | 8pm | $10
-Nakatani Gong Orchestra

Tatsuya Nakatani's Gong Orchestra delves much deeper than its surface may imply. This experiential show offers an all-acoustic meditative drone -- no electronic accompaniment will be used. Arrive on time for a solo performance by Nakatani himself.

@ Livery Company | 2pm | $5
StagFest Benefit for St. Louis Legal Fund:
-CaveofswordS

Starting midday on Friday and running well into the night, this StagFest reaches from the confines of local jazz, odd pop and a shred of punk to offer a well-rounded spectrum of sound. WED. DEC. 6

@ Way Out Club | 9pm | $5 | 21+
Way Out Weirdo Wedsnesday #24:
-Mirror Fears (Denver, CO)
-Church Fire (Denver, CO)
-The Lonely Procession
-Drew Gowran & JJ Hamon
-Nebulosa

Denver's Mirror Fears puts hard-edged industrial beats against climbing synth lines. This makes for songs that toe the line, sometimes coming off harsh and intrusive while keeping a warm, melodic core. Taking a minimalist approach, nebulosa stacks simple pieces to construct a live stream of consciousness -- a total foil to the touring acts on offer.

SAT. DEC. 9

@ Ready Room | 8pm | $10-$12 | all ages
-18andCounting & TheOnlyEnsemble (EP release)
-Mathias & the Pirates (EP release)
-Broke Poets
-VThom
-DJWhiz

Stan Chisholm is many things to many people, but as the bandleader behind 18andCounting & TheOnlyEnsemble, he fronts one of St. Louis' most underrated acts. There's a post-apocalyptic vibe that permeates the songs, owing to a blend of scattershot percussion and frantic melody relayed by live players. Hip-hop and sonic oddities mingle for an experimental rap performance that feels both exploratory and laser-focused.

SUN. DEC. 10

@ El Lenador | 7pm | $7-$12
-Chikamorachi
-Larva / Ghost Ice + Kevin Harris visuals
-Complainer (EP release)
-DJ Swan
-DJ Crim Dolla Cray

The aggressive clamor of Chikamorachi comes by design of percussionist Chris Corsano and legendary bassist Darin Gray (Dazzling Killmen, Grand Ulena, Tweedy). A sense of structure and storytelling belies the duo's frenetic fervor, making for a gripping set that weaves a seamless web of dynamism. Ghost Ice and Larva team for an improvised set bathed in a feverish portal conjured by visual artist Kevin Harris.

These are just some highlights. Check the sidebar for more!
