Crisis Nursery benefit:
-A Leaf In the Street (album release)
-Whsky Janetor
-Fragile Farm
-Pono A.M.
-The Stranger

In the last year, songwriter Kaleb Kirby went from composing heady jazz songs in Animal Children to crafting heavy pop oddities with A Leaf In The Street. This night is a culmination of that work with the release of Studies on the "Pocket," the band's debut album. And if the lineup wasn't enticing enough, consider that Crisis Nursery is the beneficiary of this stacked bill.

@ The Nest | 7pm | donation$ | all ages
-Body Meat (Denver, CO)
-Leaf In the Street
-Blank Thomas

Body Meat toes this strange line between riffy pop and no wave while somehow straddling a sound all its own. The local support might be a perfect mix for the Denver band, who opts to not adhere to any proven style.

These are just some highlights. Check the sidebar for more!

-Parlor Walls (NY)

Alyse Lamb, also known for her work in punk outfit EULA, returns to St. Louis with the aggressive and progressive Parlor Walls. The guitar, drum and saxophone trio recently signed to Northern Spy Records, fitting right in with a roster full of visceral post-rock oddities.

@ The Sinkhole | 9pm | $5-$7
-Beta Boys (Olympia, WA)
-Lysol (Seattle, WA)
-Mark Plant

For those who like their punk super trashy and burdened by walls of feedback, the one-two punch of Lysol and Beta Boys (on their way back from Everything is not OK in Oklahoma City) should be a palate cleanser.

@ The Stage | 8pm | $10-$20 | all ages

SUN. MAR. 19

@ The Nest | 8pm | donation$ | all ages
-Ovlov (Newtown, CT)
-Jackal Onasis (Brooklyn, NY)
-Glued (tape release)

Through a band split and subsequent reunion, Ovlov never missed a beat. As the cream of the crop of East Coast grunge and pop bands a la Exploding in Sound Records, Ovlov wreaks six-string havoc with infectious riffs and a distinct vocal presence -- accompanied here by likeminded labelmate, Jackal Onasis.

These are just some highlights. Check the sidebar for more!

This Week In St. Louis: Mar. 6 - 12, 2017

@ Blank Space | 9pm | $7-$10
-Mollot (Toronto, Canada)
-Newt Patrol

Mollot's propulsive hardcore hits with a blunt edge, invoking both a nihilistic tone and an expression of boundless energy. St. Louis' own Q is similarly dark and frenetic, managing a short set of songs that run in relentless tandem.

@ Kismet | 8pm | $7-$10 | all ages
-Curt Oren (Chicago, IL)
-Terror Pigeon (Nashville, TN)
-3 of 5
-Shady Bug
-Berry Barbie

This laid-back affair is billed as more of hangout than a proper show, but the lineup begs otherwise. Recent Chicago transplant Curt Oren (formerly of Iowa City) spans the spectrum, offering up a mix of pensive folk, experiential music and fierce free improvisation.

@ Foam | 9pm | all ages
-Rik and the Pigs (Portland, OR)
-Barbed Wire (NY)
-Mala Leche
-Fried E/M

If "something and the somethings" could be its own genre, Portland's Rik and the Pigs would be the poster children with its irreverent vocals backed by infectious rock and roll. A Lumpy-tested, punk-approved lineup of locals rounds out St. Louis' own little taste of the upcoming Everything Is Not OK festival in Oklahoma City.

SUN. MAR. 12

@ The Nest | 7:30pm | donation$ | all ages
-Peaer (Brooklyn, NY)
-Drool (Chicago, IL)
-Isabel Rex

Brooklyn's Peaer is reason enough to go, with its super-group roster of players from bands such as Palehound, Fugue and Suns, but our favorite of this night is Chicago's noise-gazing Drool. The former duo (recently a trio) dips its dirty fingers into otherwise melodic songs, making a cacophonous mess that aligns just right.

These are just some highlights. Check the sidebar for more!
