TUES., JAN. 10

@ Foam | 9pm | $5-$7 | all ages
-The Guests (Philadelphia, PA)
-Strange Passage (Boston, MA)
-Trauma Harness
-Sundowning

The Guest provides a melodic brand of gloomy post-punk with percussive basslines and smooth transitions. Not to be upstaged on its own home turf, Trauma Harness brings a similar vibe with a slightly more manic style of songwriting.

THURS. JAN. 12

@ Old Rock House | 8pm | $18/$20 | all ages
Art of Live Festival:
-Tortoise (Chicago, IL)

Veterans of the Chicago jazz and avant-garde scenes coalesce in Tortoise, a decades-old collective whose sounds range from dub-esque jams to video-gamey songs with heavy kraut-rock leanings.

@ San Loo | 8pm | $5
16th Annual XRII:
-Googolplexia
-Skarekrau Radio
-Satan's God

300 spankings are in order for the founder of Pancake Productions: Googolplexia (aka Rob Severson) celebrates his 300th show with resident no-wave cult Skarekrau Radio and a rare performance by the reclusive Satan's God.

SUN. JAN. 15

@ The Nest | 8pm | $5 | all ages
-Night Pits (IA)
-Mirror Mirror
-Shady Bug
-Isabel Rex
-Dick Wolf

Night Pits' party punk offers up a nostalgic pill filled with the powder of early emo and '90s pop rock. Mirror Mirror and the brand-new Shady Bug round out a solid local lineup that gives reason enough to make the show.
