This Week in St. Louis 9/1/15-9/6/15

Hans Predator (Carbondale, IL)
Big Blonde
Mr. Bones
@ Foam / 3359 S. Jefferson Ave.
8 p.m. / $5 / all ages

This is the Shitstorm/Big Blonde tour kick-off show, but it's also the last gig Shitstorm has booked in St. Louis for the next two months or so. Hans Predator is worth the price of admission alone, bringing a tight, surfy rip to loosely-fit garage rock. Sure, you don't want to scuff up Foam's beautiful hardwood floors, but dancing is sort of a given here. Good time rock show.

Louie Louie (Philadelphia, PA)
Cal and the Calories
The Bubbleheads
@ CBGB / 3163 S. Grand Ave.
9 p.m. / $5 / 21+

Philly's Louie Louie somehow sound plucked from the early '60s while retaining the hindsight of the past 50 years. Carefully coordinated garage rock comes dashed with doo-wop in a fresh package. Cal and the Calories and the newish Bubbleheads open the show.

Multicult (Baltimore, MD)
Double God
@ Foam / 3359 S. Jefferson Ave.
10 p.m. / $5 / all ages

Baltimore seems to be in a perpetual state of grunge revival. Taking into account DC bands like the Fordists located only an hour away, the whole region is slathered with bands who derive their sound from '90s heavies while taking on nuanced noise rock -- Metz, Roomrunner and Dope Body just to name a few. But Multicult released one of the best records of 2014 with Variable Impulse, and will now play a coffee shop in south city for a measly five bucks. This night is the last in a recent string of noise rock shows that included Tunic and Health Problems. Two newish two-piece bands open the night promptly at 10.
