This Week in St. Louis 3/30/15 - 4/5/15

Yeesh (Chicago, IL)
Blight Future
@ Foam / 3359 South Jefferson Ave.
10 p.m. / $5 / all ages

Yeesh sneaks in tiny tinges of noise rock to otherwise powerful punk songs. There's a pop element here, but thankfully the sing-songy vocals never overreach the band's raw aesthetic. Blight Future is St. Louis' own post apocalyptic post-hardcore -- one of the best new bands to pop up in the last year.

The Achtungs (Finland)
Lumpy and the Dumpers
Bad Dates
@ Melt / 2712 Cherokee St.
9 p.m. / $5-$7/ all ages

Finland punk rockers with a song called "City of Dicks." You need this noise in your life. The Achtungs' murky bass gives the whole band a nice, messy swamp to swim around in. The muck manifests into a solid set of fuzzy songs. If you missed Bad Dates at CBGB last Saturday, now's your chance to see the band with its brand new drummer (we won't spoil the surprise; just go).

Ylla (Milwaukee, WI)
Double God
@ Schlafly Tap Room / 2100 Locust St.
9 p.m. / free / all ages

Ylla fills the room with one part skronk, two parts melodic post-rock. The whole thing is doused with plenty of reverb, but crazy scattershot drums peak through to drive the band's odd set of rhythm and structure. Double God is the latest digs from Sean Ballard (Stonechat, Lions Eat Grass) and Jack Mideke (Laika, Jr. Clooney).

New Music Circle presents:
On Fillmore
@ the Stage at KDHX / 3524 Washington Ave.
7 p.m. / $10-$20 / all ages

Legendary experimental jazz duo On Fillmore fills the Stage at KDHX with warbling bass and world class percussion. Sound artist Darin Gray matches every minute tick from drummer Glenn Kotche, painting lush aural pictures through acoustic and electronic instruments. If you like Radiolab on NPR, chances are you've heard On Fillmore in the show's background.

Bonerville Launch Party feat.:
Lard Boys (Minneapolis, MN)
Smallpox Champion
Pink Sock
Lumpy and the Dumpers
@ Bonerville
9 p.m. / donation$ / all ages

Lard Boys comes from Minneapolis to help local hardcore heroes Pink Sock celebrate the launch party for Bonerville. That's right, the building now officially belongs to the punx. Smallpox Champion is the latest from Nick of Posture -- it's harsh noise via synths and pedals. Don't sleep on this. Also, Lumpy and the Dumpers twice in one week?

Kool 100s (Kansas City, MO)
Boreal Hills
Animal Teeth
Big Blonde
@ Foam / 3359 S. Jefferson Ave.
7:30 p.m. / $5 / all ages

Kool 100s brings a fucked shoegaze vibe in the form of short punk songs with jangly riffs. The local line-up reads like a primer of St. Louis garage punk. If you dig how that sounds, you really can't miss out. These five bands for five bucks is stupid cheap.
