Tonight: Funs Tour Kick-Off at CBGB & Ex-Cult at MELT

SATURDAY, MAY 31

The Funs (Tour Kick-Off)
Demonlover
Kisser
Hylidae

@ CBGB / 3163 South Grand Avenue
9 pm / free / 21+

The Funs are hitting the road yet again, so this is your chance to see them off and grab an LP before the records inevitably sell out. Kisser, Demonlover and Hylidae are all killer in their own right - this show offers more than what the narrow walls of CBGB can handle.

Ex-Cult (TN)
Cardiac Arrest
Dad Jr.

@ Melt / 2712 Cherokee Street
9 pm / $7 / all ages

Ex-Cult comes from a hardcore background, but the band shills feverish garage rock rife with delay and reverb. Like a bar rock band through a kaleidoscope, the four piece brings out colors in its music, bringing an audible depth that's hard to realize at a first listen. Cardiac Arrest is the brainchild of Rob Ruz, and if you haven't seen what it's all about by now, you're missing one of St. Louis' primary faces of hardcore. Dad Jr. brings an equally rough edge, albeit through neck-snapping party rock. Dorks call this one a "banger."

If neither of the shows above tickle your earlobes, or you're just completely broke, check out the free Tennis Lesson show at Schlafly Tap Room. The math-rock-turned-indie band only plays a few times each year, and this is the release show for its latest EP. Here's a sample of their older stuff:
