Graham's Top Picks for April 2014

Graham Matthews bounces from show to show with a handy-cam, collecting the odds and ends of music in St. Louis. There is absolutely no genre-bend in his coverage, made evident by an ever growing Youtube channel, which features thousands of videos of independent artists. Once a month, Graham sends us a list of 5 picks from his personal channel.

(New England) Patriots at The Livery Company

Steve and I were lucky enough to see this band in Boston when we got married, so we knew we were in for a good show at The Livery. The singer's distorted vocals, possessed dancing and various antics really make him the best wedding singer you could ask for.

Life Like at Apop Records

Things sure seem to escalate quickly at Life Like shows. First it's some harmless hat borrowing, which turns to taking audience and band members hostage via microphone cord lasso. After that, things get too scandalous for daytime TV.

3 of 5 - "Carry the Zero" (Built to Spill cover) at Cafe Ventana

I don't know the original, but I had this song in my head for days after this wonderful cover. Sean helps out with the lyrics on his phone and even sings along. Good teamwork, guys.

Za at Bunk Bed, Collinsville IL

"Do you live in my woods?" a confused audience member asks. We should all be so lucky to have John and Jack living in our proverbial woods, serenading us with these wacky and wild songs.

Les Rhinocéros at Cafe Ventana

These rhinos can jam with hands and feet. Having never heard of them before, I was blown away at this performance, at the last Cafe Ventana show. Just another example of the great out-of-town talent that came and blew everyone away at the coffee shop.
