This Week In St. Louis 1/6/14 - 1/12/14

The Brainstems
Rat Heart
Wild Hex

@ Schlafly Tap Room / 2100 Locust Street
9 pm / free / all ages

Thankfully, the Brainstems are back after a year-long hiatus. Label-mates Rat Heart and Wild Hex will join them on this return show, which should be a killer night of rock 'n roll.

Lions Eat Grass
Michael Stafford
Ancient Youth
Babe Maggots

@ Cafe Ventana / 3919 West Pine Boulevard
9 pm / donations / all ages

Michael Stafford travels from Oklahoma City to perform solo piano tunes and Lions Eat Grass returns to play their bizzaro-pop by way of drums and accordion. Ancient Youth and Willis beat-punk side-project Babe Maggots open the show.

Cheer-Accident (IL)
The Conformists

@ Schlafly Tap Room / 2100 Locust Street
8 pm / free / all ages

Cheer-Accident are modern prog-rock legends. From scuzzy Skin Graft records-style math rock to odd pop songs, the group plays an insane set, mixing genre on a whim. Yowie and The Conformists are the most appropriate local bands to open the show with their own separate but equally brain bending takes on progressive music. If you're not too privy on the terms "math rock" or even prog, this show is not only an awesome gateway into those genres, but is free and all ages.

Neatly Knotted (IL)
Nevada Greene
Wax Fruit
Jake Leech

@ Blank Space / 2847 Cherokee Street
8 pm / $5 / 21+

Expect a mix of moody synth and ambient drones. Wax Fruit crafts thick, haunting electro jams while Jake Leech brings melodic walls of interweaving tones and texture. Neatly Knotted visits from Chicago - click the embed above to preview some songs.
