Recommended Shows This Week 6/3/13 - 6/9/13

Cloud Becomes Your Hand (Brooklyn, NY)
Catholic Guilt

@ Chromozone / Ask A Freak
9 PM / $5 / all ages

Cloud Becomes Your Hand makes a strange blend of progressive folk via violin and synthesizer amid a typical rock set-up. Coming from Brooklyn, CBYH brings gnarly compositions that sound like some twisted jazz-odyssey con movie soundtrack. Catholic Guilt opens with their wild and usually abrasive improv-set. If you don't know where Chromozone is located, here's a hint: Ill-noise and misery.

If psychedelics aren't your vibe, Need from Champaign, IL plays guttural hardcore over at CBGB.

Sete Star Sept (JAPAN)
Shaved Women

@ Blank Space / 2847 Cherokee St.
9 PM / $5 / 21+

Sete Star Sept is semi-improvised grind metal from Japan. If screaming and guitar mutilation from a tiny Japanese woman with a back-line of a machine-gun drums isn't your thing, I don't know what to tell you.

If you're really against Japanese guitar noise, then I suppose you could check out the much more palatable Ex Wife from New Jersey over at Foam.

Stab (U.K.)
Lumpy and The Dumpers
Life Like
@ No Coast / 4260 Manchester Ave.
9 PM / $5 / all ages

Stab flew across the ocean to play hardcore for you. Lumpster and The Dumpsters return from their run at Chaos In Tejas and they'll no doubt be celebs and soon you'll have to pay thirty bucks to see them live. Come to a skate shop on Wednesday night and be able to tell your grand-kids you knew Lumpy "back then."

Hoax (Western MA)
Can We Win(Last Show)
Pink Sock
@ Bonerville / Ask A Punk
8:30 PM / $5 / all ages

Hoax turns hardcore into a dark ritual. The lyrics are straight forward and stab with real, pertinent issues. Hoax provides a varied set through use of many genre trappings, and does it so genuinely while proudly owning the moniker of hardcore. This is your last chance to see Can We Win and your two-hundredth chance to see Pink Sock.

Nurse (Nashville, TN)
Graphic Tease (Nashville, TN)
Opportunist (Hot Springs, AR)
Beauty Pageant
(Jim Fitzpatrick/Joseph Hess)
@ Foam / 3359 S. Jefferson Ave.
8 PM / $5 / all ages

Nurse is a vicious male/female noise rock duo from Nashville, Tennessee. Opportunist brings weirdo rock for you '90s enthusiasts and happens to be from Arkansas, so keep your fingers crossed for cute southern accents. Beauty Pageant will be playing a special stripped down set (who knows what they mean by 'strip') and HMPF is a barrage of guitar and drums.

For less noisy and more heavy; Check out Lizards Have Personalities from Kansas hitting the Lemp Arts Center on their last tour ever.

If none of the above sound too appealing, maybe you'll dig an all-local show with Little Big Bangs, Middle Class Fashion and more over at The Livery

Kowabunga! Kid (Champaign, IL)
Dino Bravo (Champaign, IL)
Times Beach
Trauma Harness
Cal and The Calories
(members of Lumpy and The Dumpers)
@ Chromozone / Ask A Freak
9 PM / $5 / all ages

Surf-pop, pro-wrestling and saturated fats soak into the concrete at Chromozone. Witness a five band power-run this Sunday, God's day, and wash yourself in the blood, sweat and tears of punk and rock and/or roll. Also, Trauma Harness.
