Recommended Shows the Week of 1/30/12 - 2/5/12

This Will Destroy You (San Marcos, TX)
w/Amen Dumes (NY)
Key Grip
@ The Firebird / 2706 Olive St.
8 p.m. / $12 / 21+
This Will Destroy You brings overbearingly melodic post-rock to the Firebird. St. Louis works as a cross-section for the Texan group as they share the stage with Amen Dumes. Key Grip will open the show with ominous improvisations amidst a back-drop of unsettling projections.

LAST SHOW EVER at Illegal Tone Recordings
w/The Vanilla Beans (shown in video)
Dem Scientist
Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship
Oh No You Didn't
French Fry Guys
Spastic Plastic
@ Illegal Tone Recordings / 8 S. Church St.
7 p.m. / $5 / all ages
Celebrate four years of DIY ethics with homegrown indie, punk, hardcore and all the weirdos in-between. ITR has been a cornerstone for D-I-Y offerings in Belleville and we're all sad to see it go. Read more about the venue HERE.

Tiny Moving Parts (Moorhead, ND)
w/ Marco Polo (Rockford, IL)
@ Vandy Funhouse / 3902 Lindell Blvd
8 p.m. / $5 / all ages / FB
Post-hardcore meets screamo in a crowded basement under the arch. Tiny Moving Parts and Marco Polo swing by STL on a short Winter tour, bringing raw and melodic sounds with them. What else is there to do on Wednesday night?

The Skekses
w/ Humdrum
Spoken Nerd
@ Schlafly Tap Room / 2100 Locust St.
9 p.m. / free / 21+ / FB
The Skekses bring soul and charm together in an intimate setting. Humdrum is indie-rock at its finest with a dash of psychedelics while Spoken Nerd busts out electro-pop songs based on whatever mess is going on.

This City Of Takers
w/ Pat Sajak Assassins
Damned Holy Rollers
@ Schlafly Tap Room / 2100 Locust St.
9 p.m. / free / all ages
This City Of Takers is unapologetic (and at times abrasive) blues rock that isn't afraid to get raw and messy. The Pat Sajak Assassins are fresh off of recording a new album of instrumental post-rock goodness, and the Damned Holy Rollers round out a solid, diverse bill.

January has been a hectic month. Two all ages venues shut their doors and south Saint Louis has seen a surge in mid-Winter gigs. There's been something to do almost every night of the month. Basements in and around St. Louis have been picking up the slack and a few new bar venues just opened their doors. Expect updates on the Venues page in the weeks to come.
