Featured Shows (November 2010)

Featured Shows This Week:

Wednesday, November 17th @ Cranky Yellow

VACATION DAD(Beverly Hills, Wisconsin)

WITH: Kid Counselor(St. Louis) and Britches(St. Louis)
When: November 17th
Where: Cranky Yellow
-----> 2847 Cherokee Street
-----> Saint Louis, MO 63118
8 PM || ALL AGES || $5.00
Question: "Why Should I Go?"
Answer: Vacation Dad is charming electronic music with driving beats and intricacies spread throughout. Returning to St. Louis after performing with his friend Birthdays in the past year, Vacation Dad is looking to give the river city another chance to juke and jive. No turkeys at this show; we're looking for bloody red meat (unless you're a vegan).

Britches is esoteric and murky. Waves of noise wash over indie-rock meanderings in a way that begets a distinct sound. Britches is one of St. Louis' best kept secrets(but not for long).

Thursday, November 18th @ The Floating Laboratories

GOD WILLING(Nashville, TN), UNICORN HARD-ON(Nashville, TN), HUMAN BEASTS(Providence, RI)

WITH: Dust Bunny (Reunion Show) and DJ Ghost Ice
When: November 18th
Where: The Floating Laboratories
-----> 4528 Ohio
-----> Saint Louis, MO 63111
8 PM || ALL AGES || DONATIONS
Question: "Why Should I Go?"
Answer: Punk rock started as a reaction. In 2010, noise is the final frontier. The noise movement is one of the most startling (and fascinating) trends in the past thirty years. This concert not only features the reunion of St. Louis veterans DUST BUNNY, but showcases International Noise Conference 2010 alumni. If you are looking for otherworldly sounds not present in today's rock music, this could be your inauguration into the "noise scene".

Saturday, November 20th @ Cranky Yellow

KUAN!!!!!!(Dayton, Ohio)

WITH: Mil-Effect (members of Yowie, There's a Killer Among Us, Phut, Lye By Mistake) and CACKLING HEN
When: November 20th
Where: Cranky Yellow
-----> 2847 Cherokee Street
-----> Saint Louis, MO 63118
8 PM || ALL AGES || $5.00
Question: "Why Should I Go?"
Answer: Kuan climbs over that post rock mountain, riddled with groups like Pelican, Explosions In The Sky and Sigur Ros. These natives of Dayton, Ohio succeed in building compositions that not only reach a satisfying peak, but ascend the trappings of melodic instrumental rock music. Great playing and great energy are usually signs of young and optimistic bands, but Kuan are clearly veterans of their craft. Kuan achieves a distinct sound in a genre rife with impersonators.

Mil-Effect weaves in and out of post hardcore without ever seeming contrived. Clean guitar riffs race next to oddly timed break-beats in a way that grooves, while keeping a steady pulse. Mil-Effect is distinctly "St. Louis" following in the proverbial footsteps of Yowie, The Dazzling Killmen, The Conformists and others. Cackling Hen shapes forceful walls of sound around steady rhythms. Inspired by Japanese experimental groups such as Boredoms, Boris and more, 'Hen rips with a poignant sound and bends genres in the meantime.
